A federal judge is considering endorsing an “unspecified method” that draws from other methods to arrive at a new tax bill for medical device manufacturer Medtronic in the eleventh year of the company’s legal battle with the IRS.
U.S. Tax Court Judge Kathleen Kerrigan made the comments on Friday at the close of a trial session that began June 14, almost five years after her initial ruling that Medtronic owed around $14 million in additional taxes. The IRS put the figure starkly higher—at nearly $1.4 billion.
