EU Needs to Streamline Crypto-Asset Tax Rules, Lawmakers Say

The European Union should adopt common definitions of crypto-assets for tax purposes, and should push for an international agreement on the taxation of crypto-assets, the European Parliament said.

The bloc should also back common definitions of taxable events in relation to crypto-assets, lawmakers said in a resolution adopted Tuesday in a 566-7 vote, with 47 abstentions.

The European Commission, the EU’s executive, should publish an assessment of “major taxable events and forms of income associated with crypto-assets,” covering in particular “the issuance of crypto-assets, the exchange of crypto-assets for fiat currencies, goods or services, and bestowal via gift or inheritance,” ...
