Unequal pay between men and women in professional sports has been a concern for years, and a new lawsuit by U.S. women soccer players could be the catalyst other athletes need to take action, according to industry analysts.
Twenty-eight U.S. women’s soccer players filed a proposed class action March 8, alleging violations of the Equal Pay Act by the United States Soccer Federation Inc. and renewing discussions about a gender pay disparity that’s been alleged in the past. The lawsuit also raised the possibility of similar actions in other sports where women are known to be paid less.
