Industry-Led Apprenticeship Guidelines Under White House Review

The Labor Department’s proposed guidelines that would govern accreditors of an industry-led apprenticeship program are undergoing review by the White House’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs—the first step of regulatory review before a proposal can be released to the public for comments.

This marks the first major step forward for the long-discussed Industry Recognized Apprenticeship Programs (IRAP), first initiated by President Donald Trump’s Executive Order to Expand Apprenticeship in America introduced in June 2017. The yet-to-be-rolled-out program is meant to serve as the alternative to the DOL’s 80-year-old Registered Apprenticeship Programs, which involves more government oversight.
