While Some Declare UAW’s VW Defeat
Organizing Setback, Union Mulls Options

As the United Auto Workers weighs its options after a close representation defeat Feb. 14 at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tenn., assembly plant, the long-term ramifications for organizing in the South remain unclear.

The National Labor Relations Board reported a 712-626 vote against union representation at VW Chattanooga, Gregory King, an NLRB spokesman, confirmed to Bloomberg BNA Feb. 18.

A representative for the union told Bloomberg BNA Feb. 18, “We are still considering our options and haven’t decided on our path forward.” The sides have until Feb. 21 to file an objection with the NLRB over the election.
