Walmart Inc. is on the hook for $102 million for violations of California wage and hour laws, a federal judge in the Northern District of California ruled May 31.
The bulk of the damages—$97 million—were awarded to over 50,000 class members who received a quarterly incentive award and also worked overtime during the quarter, but were issued wage statements that didn’t include hours worked and rates of pay. The total award includes more than $48 million for violating the California Labor Code, and an additional $54 million in California Private Attorneys General Act penalties.
