Walmart Loses Appeal Over Employees’ Hep B Vaccinations (1)

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration acted properly when it cited a Florida Walmart Inc. distribution center for violating a worker safety bloodborne pathogen standard, a federal appeals court ruled.

The case centered on whether a team of Walmart workers known as the Serious Injury Response Team who sometimes treated injured employees were exempt from the standard because first aid wasn’t their primary job. Walmart trains the volunteers in first aid, CPR, automated external defibrillators, and bloodborne pathogens safety and organizes them into teams to provide first aid to injured workers.
