Walmart Accused of Underpaying, Overworking California Employees

Walmart Inc. systematically underpaid its California employees and forced them to work through unpaid breaks, a new federal lawsuit claims.

George Sousa, who works as a night manager at a Walmart in Hanford, Calif., brought various wage and breaks claims under state law. He seeks to represent a class of hourly workers and a subclass of night managers who were subjected to Walmart’s allegedly unlawful policies and practices.

All employees are required to wait in security lines for five to 10 minutes to undergo inspections before and after every shift, but Walmart doesn’t pay them for this compensable time, according...
