Virginia is close to joining other states in boosting their minimum wage.
The state House of Delegates approved a bill (H.B. 395) that would boost the minimum wage from the federal minimum of $7.25 per hour to $10 an hour on July 1. The rate would increase annually until it hits $15 an hour in 2025.
The pending measure, which still needs approval by the Senate, also would remove farm, domestic, and other types of workers from the list of jobs currently exempt from the minimum pay requirements.
