Virgin, Alaska Airlines Appeal Flight Attendants’ $77M Wage Win

Virgin America and Alaska Airlines are appealing a $77 million award they were ordered to pay a class of California flight attendants for wage and hour violations.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled Feb. 4 that the airlines are liable to about 1,400 flight attendants for failing to pay for all hours worked and failing to pay overtime rates. The two airlines also didn’t provide meal or rest breaks, provided inaccurate wage statements, and failed to pay waiting time penalties to discharged employees.
