Verizon Dealer Must Face Some Workers’ Wage, Overtime Claims

A New York Verizon Wireless dealer must face part of a suit accusing it of violating minimum wage and overtime requirements, a federal judge said July 19.

Cellular Sales of New York LLC successfully fought off some worker wage claims. But there’s still a dispute over whether the workers were employees or independent contractors, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York said.

The workers contracted with Cellular Sales to sell Verizon plans, devices, and accessories in 2010 and 2011, the court said. The company treated them as contractors rather than employees at the time, and ...
