United Way Worldwide Beats Texas Employee’s Retaliation Lawsuit

United Way Worldwide defeated a lawsuit by a former employee of a Texas branch who says she was fired after raising concerns about racial discrimination and employee benefit mishandling, according to a Fifth Circuit decision issued Thursday.

Coneisha Sherrod, who oversaw human resources at United Way of Tarrant County until 2017, can’t charge the parent organization with unlawful retaliation under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, because United Way Worldwide never discharged, fined, or suspended her, the Fifth Circuit said.
