United Airlines Worker Loses Appeal Over Union Representation

A former United Airlines worker failed Monday to convince the Seventh Circuit to revive his lawsuit against the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 781, which he said unfairly represented him when he was fired for purportedly abandoning his job.

Osama Taha had asked for six months off to care for his ailing mother in Saudi Arabia, but United gave him 30 days. He was fired three months after United expected him back on the job, prompting an unsuccessful grievance and then this lawsuit against the union.
