United Air Says Inflation Is Hitting Airport Vendors, Hiring

United Airlines Holdings Inc. sees inflation showing up in airport vendor costs, including higher wages for some jobs amid staffing shortfalls.

“We plan for high inflation and we are absolutely seeing high inflation right now,” United Chief Executive Officer Scott Kirby said Thursday on Bloomberg Television. The effects are showing up in “aviation-support infrastructure,” he said, including tight staffing for restaurants that remain closed in many terminals and a shortage of people who provide wheelchair assistance or refuel aircraft.

United, which can face higher costs when vendors pass along such expenses, has also felt the impact in its own operations. ...
