Union Raises Holding Steady as U.S. Faces New Economic Perils

The average first-year wage increase provided to union-represented workers has held steady since the summer, but the worsening coronavirus pandemic may yet result in a lower year-end average.

As of now, the overall average is 3.2%, the latest update to Bloomberg Law’s database of wage settlements shows. It’s been at that level since August.

“I still predict that the average might go down before the end of the year because of the new surge in Covid-19 cases and added pressure to shut down businesses, not to mention uncertainty about congressional relief,” said Bloomberg Law labor and employment analyst Robert Combs. ...
