Union Defense Against Fee Lawsuits Under Review at 7th Circuit

Illinois government worker Mark Janus is back in federal appeals court pressing claims that could deliver another serious blow to union coffers.

Janus prevailed last year at the U.S. Supreme Court in a landmark case that prohibited public sector unions from requiring nonmembers to pay for collective bargaining and other nonpolitical expenses. Now he’s asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit to invalidate a defense that unions have used to avoid paying back the mandatory fees they collected before the high court’s ruling.
