Uber Drivers Seek Class Status in California Classification Suit

A group of Uber drivers asked a California federal court to certify a class on their claims that the ride-sharing company has misclassified them as independent contractors instead of employees.

The proposed class doesn’t include drivers bound by Uber’s arbitration clause, and their misclassification claim clearly warrants class treatment under the applicable legal test for worker classification, the plaintiffs said in a motion filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
