Mine operators will be held to an Obama-era mine inspection standard despite efforts by the Trump administration to relax the safety protections. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit upheld the stricter standard June 11.

It will require operators to inspect mines before miners begin work and include in safety records all “conditions that may adversely affect safety or health” discovered during the examination, even if the hazardous condition is corrected immediately.
