Trash Firm’s Unilateral Rule Change Violated Labor Law: NLRB

A California waste collection company violated federal labor law by denying a union an opportunity to bargain over the company’s decision to bar workers from using a training room during breaks, the National Labor Relations Board ruled.

Arakelian Enterprises, doing business as Athens Services, had to give an International Brotherhood of Teamsters affiliate the chance to negotiate over the policy change even though the company acted because the union had entered the room without permission, the board said in its decision Thursday.
