Trans Professor’s Insurance Suit Paused to Resolve Privilege Row

A lawsuit alleging Arizona unlawfully excluded gender-confirming surgery from its employee health plans is on hold pending the state’s appeal of an order requiring it to produce allegedly privileged information.

This is one of several suits in which transgender employees have challenged as discriminatory health insurance plans that refuse to pay for health care deemed medically necessary to treat gender dysphoria, a condition in which a person is adversely affected by a mismatch between their gender and the sex assigned at birth.
