Top NLRB Lawyer Signals Sweeping View of Legal Protections (1)

The NLRB’s top lawyer set forth an expansive view of workers’ right to band together to improve working conditions, promising in a six-page memorandum to “vigorously” prosecute retaliation against concerted employee actions.

Acting General Counsel Peter Sung Ohr emphasized that labor law can safeguard more than just group activity related to union organizing and discussions about “vital categories of workplace life,” such as wages and hours. Worker discussions about political and social justice or workplace safety and health may also receive legal protections, Ohr said in the memo, issued Wednesday.
