TIAA Settles Labor Agency’s Claims of Pay Bias Against Women (3)

The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America will pay at least $1 million to settle Labor Department allegations of systemic pay discrimination against women, an agency official announced.

The DOL’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs alleged in its original complaint that TIAA paid women less than men in project management office and recordkeeping roles, and Black workers less than White workers in wealth management advisory roles. The alleged pay bias took place at a TIAA location in Charlotte, N.C. The Labor Department sued TIAA in September 2019.
