Texas Governor OKs Business Protections From Pandemic Lawsuits

Texas will provide liability protections for businesses operating during the pandemic, under a bill signed Monday by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Republican Kelly Hancock, chairman of the state’s Senate Business and Commerce Committee, said his legislation “does not shield bad actors,” adding that there will be litigation for those who failed to follow protocols to protect customers and employees.

The measure (S.B. 6) bars litigation over Covid-19 deaths and injuries for those acting in “good faith” to follow government health and safety protocols, according to a bill analysis by the state’s nonpartisan House Research Organization. The measure ...
