Texas Auto Dealer Escapes Fired Worker’s Defamation Lawsuit

Kahlig Auto Group Management LLC defeated a former worker’s claims that his manager lied to the owner of the company that he missed two days of work and was difficult during an end of the year dealership audit.

The Texas Court of Appeals, Fourth District, held Tuesday that when supervisor Bob Terrill made the allegedly defamatory statements, he was at a company meeting, discussing the year-end audit and issues between employees related to the audit. Therefore, the company met its burden of proof that qualified privilege applies.
