Texas Attorney Avoids Disqualification From Forced-Labor Lawsuit

An attorney for landlords accused of keeping property workers in destitute, powerless conditions won’t be disqualified or sanctioned over their assertions about an opposing lawyer’s ethics or a misrepresentation to the court, a federal court in Texas ruled.

Some aspects of a motion to dismiss filed by the defense lawyer, Steven Clark, were so untimely as to be frivolous, but that doesn’t warrant a sanction as severe as disqualification, Magistrate Judge Kimberly C. Priest Johnson said Monday for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
