Tesla Bid to Arbitrate Worker’s Firing, Retaliation Case Renewed

Tesla Inc. won another shot at arbitrating a former employee’s termination and retaliation claims Friday when a California appellate court found the company didn’t need to authenticate an electronic signature on an arbitration provision.

Brandon Valdez sued Tesla in 2020 alleging he was wrongfully fired and that the company discriminated against him and failed to accommodate a disability.

Tesla sought to force the lawsuit into arbitration, on the grounds that Valdez had electronically signed a binding arbitration agreement as part of his offer letter when he was hired.
