Suspended Lacrosse Coaches Lose Suit Against School District

Two Albany-area high school girls’ lacrosse coaches lost their suit challenging a school district’s decision to suspend them after parents complained about how they managed the team.

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District placed coach/substitute teacher Jake McHerron and assistant coach Mary Lou Vosburgh on paid administrative leave while it investigated the allegations.

The coaches alleged the district violated their procedural and substantive due process rights.

But the duo identified no constitutional right or protected interest stemming from their untenured positions as coach or substitute teacher, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York said.
