Summer Temperatures Put Heat on Employers to Protect Workers

Summer’s heat wave is driving some workers to ask workplace safety agencies for relief.

The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration told Bloomberg Environment Sept. 7 that it opened an investigation into complaints by workers at a Memphis distribution center operated by XPO Logistics Inc., an international distribution and shipping company.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited employers in Texas and Louisiana in August for allegedly exposing workers to excessive temperatures during a June heat wave following reports of possible exposure.
