Southwest Pilot Files Military Bias Suit Over Covid-Leave Plan

Southwest Airlines Co. fails to provide equal pay and benefits under its Covid-19 emergency time off program to employees who were or are still on military leaves of absences, according to a proposed class lawsuit filed in federal court in Baltimore.

Boeing 737 pilot Barry Weaver said the airline announced the program June 1, 2020, under which employees were permitted to volunteer for extended absences ranging from six months to five years during which they receive reduced pay but full benefits—including sick time accrual, vacation accrual, profit sharing, and medical coverage—without any employment commitment.
