The Senate inserted legislation that would require employers to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnant workers in the omnibus package, after weeks of attempts to clear the bill in the chamber.
The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (H.R. 1065), proposed as an amendment from Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) to the US budget bill under consideration by the Senate, received a 73-24 vote Thursday. The legislation, which the House passed last May, would outlaw discrimination against pregnant workers requesting assistance, such as light duty or other arrangements.
