Seasonal Worker Showdown Looms as Applications Nearly Double

Employers are seeking more low-skilled, seasonal foreign workers this spring and summer than there are visas available for the entire fiscal year.

During the first week in January, the Labor Department received close to 3,000 H-2B applications covering some 53,200 foreign workers, a 93 percent increase over the number of applications received in the same week of 2016, the agency said Feb. 6. Through the rest of January it received another 1,500 applications covering 28,900 workers.
