Seasonal Guestworker Shortage Likely as Visa Cap Reached

All low-skilled, seasonal work visas have been used up for the remainder of fiscal year 2017, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced March 16.

Employers that haven’t already secured H-2B visas will now have to wait until October before they can apply.

That could spell bad news for the landscaping industry, which has a peak season starting in the spring. Landscapers are the biggest users of the H-2B program.

There are 66,000 H-2B visas available each year, divided into 33,000 for each half of the fiscal year. The cap for the first half of FY 2017 was reached Jan. 10. ...
