San Francisco Lawmakers Approve Hazard Pay for Grocery Workers

Workers in chain groceries and pharmacies in San Francisco would be eligible for an extra $5 per hour in pandemic-related hazard pay under an emergency measure the city’s Board of Supervisors approved Tuesday.

The measure would cover workers at grocery stores and pharmacies that employ more than 20 people in the city and 500 worldwide. It would limit the pay boosts to workers who earn less than $35 an hour or $75,000 a year and aren’t covered by a collective bargaining agreement predating Feb. 1, 2020, that expressly provides for hazard pay.
