ROC United Launching Efforts to Ban
Tipped Minimum Wage in Six States, D.C.

Campaigns are under way in six Northeastern states plus the District of Columbia to eliminate the subminimum wage for tipped workers through legislation, regulation or ballot measures, Restaurant Opportunities Centers United announced Feb. 12 at an event to highlight the worker advocacy group’s annual day of action held Feb. 13.

“It’s the first time in U.S. history that this many states are moving in the direction of eliminating a lower wage for tipped workers,” Saru Jayaraman, co-founder and co-director of the New York-based ROC United, told the audience at a Washington, D.C., restaurant.
