Retaliation, Harassment Get EEOC Focus in Latest Fiscal Period

Sexual harassment remained a prime target of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in its recently closed fiscal third quarter. The enforcement agency also announced more than $10 million in workplace bias settlements over the same period.

The nine new cases involving allegations of sexual harassment in the quarter ending June 30 were second only to the 13 new lawsuits alleging retaliation for complaining about job discrimination. Disability bias was the next most frequent allegation by the agency, with eight employers now facing fresh claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The EEOC filed 27 new suits in all.
