Restaurant-backed Tip Rule Delayed Again by Department of Labor

The start date for a Trump-era rule giving eateries more leeway to pay a $2.13 per hour minimum wage to tipped workers, even when they’re not doing tipped work, has been delayed for the second time by the U.S. Department of Labor.

A finalized rule released Wednesday extends by eight additional months—to Dec. 31—the effective date of more controversial elements of the regulation. The measure had been under White House review.

The Trump DOL published the tip rule in the administration’s final month. Biden first delayed its effective date by 60 days.
