Justices Decline Freelancer Challenge to California Worker Test

The US Supreme Court declined to review a challenge from a group of freelance journalists and photographers to a California law that makes it harder to classify workers as independent contractors rather than employees.

The American Society of Journalists and Authors and the National Press Photographers Association asked the justices to strike down part of a 2019 state law known as Assembly Bill 5, which codified a three-part test the California Supreme Court had developed to determine employee status.
