Pension Relief Talks Pushed to 2021 as Solvency Crisis Persists

Senate Republicans punted pension solvency talks to 2021 after failing to hammer out a bipartisan fix they could tack onto any year-end spending deals.

“We have reached the point where we are out of time to strike an agreement that can be scored by the Congressional Budget Office and reviewed by our Senate and House colleagues to include in an end-of-year package,” Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and retiring Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) said in a joint statement Monday.
