A Georgia chicken processing plant was hit with $154,674 in federal workplace safety penalties stemming from an investigation of an ammonia leak that occurred less than two months after six workers at the same facility were killed in a liquid nitrogen release.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s investigation of the anhydrous ammonia release identified 22 alleged safety and health violations at the Foundation Food Group Inc. facility in Gainesville, the agency said in a news release Tuesday. No workers were injured in the March 11 ammonia release, but the incident prompted workers to complain to the agency.
