Ohio’s Governor Can Cut Off U.S. Jobless Aid, State Judge Says

Ohio officials won’t have to resume the enhanced federal unemployment benefits that Gov. Mike DeWine opted to end early, after a judge declined to order them restored pending the final outcome of a lawsuit challenging DeWine’s decision.

The state court ruling issued Thursday came a day after an Arkansas court reached the opposite conclusion in a similar case—finding that Arkansas must resume paying the federal benefits because Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) went beyond his authority on an issue that should have been left to the state legislature.
