Northern California Blackout Pulls Plug on SEIU Strike

A massive Northern California blackout prompted some 12,000 Santa Clara County workers to call off a strike against the Silicon Valley county in the first walkout in 40 years.

Concerns over wind-whipped live wires sparking wildfires prompted PG&E Corp. to shut off power to hundreds of thousands of customers in Northern California, including businesses and residential customers. That prompted Santa Clara County officials to declare a state of emergency, as the shutoff was expected to affect about 38,250 customers in the county.
