Adjunct faculty members at Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit were entitled to vote on representation by the United Steelworkers, a divided National Labor Relations Board held April 10 (Duquesne Univ., 2017 BL 116680, N.L.R.B., No. 06-RC-080933, 4/10/17).
Asserting jurisdiction over the Duquesne dispute does not run afoul of the First Amendment, the board said in a brief unpublished decision that echoed recent rulings against other Catholic universities.
The board’s action moved the Duquesne dispute forward, but it is far from over.
