Ex-NFL players Clinton Portis and Tamarick Vanover are discussing a settlement of health-care fraud charges with federal prosecutors after a jury was unable to reach a verdict against Portis and a federal trial court granted Vanover’s motion for a mistrial.
“The parties advised that they are in active plea negotiations,” the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky said Thursday.
Portis and Vanover are the only remaining defendants charged with criminal counts stemming from a scheme to defraud a health-care program for retired players, after the other 11 pleaded guilty.
