New York Urges Amazon Shareholders to Vote for Racial Audit

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli called on Amazon.com, Inc. shareholders to vote for an independent audit of the company’s civil rights, racial equity, and diversity and inclusion practices.

DiNapoli, trustee of the state’s $247.7 billion pension fund, urged the shareholders Monday to vote against nominees for the company’s Nominating and Governance committees due to the lack of racially diverse directors on Amazon’s board, according to a statement. New York’s pension fund representatives will vote against the members, because only one in 10 of the directors nominated is from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, according to DiNapoli’s office.
