Nashville Beats Bias, Retaliation Claims in Police Suit

A former Nashville police officer’s suit against the city and two superior officers was mostly dismissed when a federal court in Tennessee nixed her claims of race discrimination, retaliation, and whistleblower protection.

Ada Thaxter, a Black, female lieutenant with the Nashville police department, alleged she had been sexually harassed and that the department had failed to properly respond, that she was discriminated against based on her race and retaliated against for publicizing issues within the department, and that she was ultimately forced to resign after refusing to remain silent about alleged illegal activity.
