N.Y. Whole Foods Allegedly Discriminated Based on Criminal Pasts

Grocery chain Whole Foods Market Group Inc. screened out job applicants with criminal histories in violation of New York antidiscrimination law, according to a new potential class action filed in federal court.

Henry Franklin sought employment with Whole Foods’ Manhattan delivery service, and consented to a background check as part of the application process, according to his complaint.

Franklin was denied employment by Whole Foods at least in part on the basis of his criminal record, “as there is nothing else in his background that could have motivated this decision,” he alleges in the suit filed in the U.S....
