Most Embassies, Consulates Back to Normal, Reducing Wait Times

The vast majority of US consulates and embassies abroad are back to normal operations after the lifting of local pandemic restrictions, the State Department announced.

But pent-up demand combined with regular seasonal travel could still mean extended wait times in many locations, the agency said Thursday.

The State Department has doubled the hiring of foreign service personnel and is on track to fill all of its overseas visa adjudicator positions by the end of this fiscal year, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Visa Services Julie Stufft told reporters Thursday.
