More Americans Than Expected File for Jobless Benefits

The number of Americans filing for U.S. state unemployment benefits last week exceeded forecasts, according to the Labor Department.

  • Jobless claims totaled 268K in week ended Nov. 13, est. 260K; forecast range 250K-282K from 43 economists surveyed
  • Prior week claims revised up to 269K from 267K
  • 4-week moving avg. at 272.8K in week ended Nov. 13
  • Actual, unadjusted initial claims at 238.9K from 257.0K in prior week
  • Continuing claims fell 129K to 2.08M in the week ending Nov. 6
