Michigan Workers Back on Road After Governor Brokers Deal (1)

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) brokered a deal to put unionized road workers back on more than 100 projects in the state after nearly a monthlong lockout.

The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association and Operating Engineers 324 agreed to restart union work without a contract through the indefinite future, Snyder announced Sept. 27.

The lockout brought cries for action from Democratic and Republican state politicians in a political climate where incomplete road construction has been a key issue in the November elections. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat challenging Snyder, has even made “Fix the damn roads” her campaign slogan.
