Medical Staffing Company to Pay $7.2 Million in Overtime Case

A Virginia-based medical staffing agency was ordered to pay more than $7.2 million in back pay and damages after the U.S. Labor Department found it failed to pay overtime wages to more than 1,100 nurses and aides.

The judgment in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia-Norfolk Division said that Steadfast Medical Staffing had been “willfully” misclassifying its workers as independent contractors since at least August 2015, and denied workers time-and-a-half wages when they worked more than 40 hours a week, violating the Fair Labor Standards Act.
